Following a nice rain the evening before, the following members attended the regularly scheduled June business meeting: President ~ Mike Lashley, Vice-President ~ Vic Echevarria, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Safety Officer ~ Dave Sweet, Julian Pugh, Ron Hargrove, Mark Trott, Charlie Trott, Charles Colbert, Curtis Miller, Tripp Grissom, Joe Brett, and Jim Brooks. A good number of these fliers brought airplanes to the meeting and took advantage of the good flying weather following the meeting.
1) Vic called the meeting to order and expressed his desire that more of the membership would attend the monthly meetings. He said that in addition to the website notification he had called some members who are
not active with computers.
2) Vic expressed his thanks to Dave Sweet for making “WarBirds Over McDonough” happen and the attendees expressed their agreement. Dave has the ability to make these activities come off so smoothly and we
are certainly fortunate that he is willing to organize them. Many Thanks Dave!
3) Vic also thanked Mike Trott for his efforts in providing “WarBird” Tee shirts. Mike delivered some Tees to those who ordered them and took additional orders.
4) Vic discussed our field maintenance program and pointed out that the new grass seems to be doing quite well. He also mentioned that this last Thursday, the Geezers fertilized and rolled the grass runway and Mike
repaired two broken sprinkler heads so now the sprinkler system has been activated.
5) Vic pointed out that the recent RC magazines have informed us that the FAA has slid the announcement date of their new total airspace control changes to sometime in the fourth quarter of 2011 with implementation
date scheduled for the first quarter 2013.
6) Vic pointed out that the starting tables are showing their age and need to be replaced in the near future. Mike said the AMA website has plans and drawings for starting tables and he will check them out to see if there are some improvements that we can make on the new tables. Ron mentioned that perhaps one starting table could be large enough to handle twin engine planes and some pilots flying twins agreed that the present
tables will not accommodate their twin engine planes.
7) Officers were reminded that the quarterly HCRCC officers meeting will be on Saturday morning, July 9 at 8:15 at Golden Corral, Jonesboro Road.
8) Mike Trott gave a status report on the problem with the sound system. Seems this is a German made system that is no longer being produced. Mike said he was now trying to find a local repair facility that is
familiar with this system.
9) Joe Ryan was unable to attend so no current financial figures are available.
10) New fliers continue to join the club and a question was raised on whether the club is properly supervising the club growth and whether all new member applicants are filling out a membership application. Vic and Jim Murphy have agreed to work on this situation.
11) Vic mentioned that we need to be considering some end of the year activities such as election of officers and the Christmas party.
12) Tripp Grissom brought some construction materials with him today and will be installing some shelving in the storage building. Way to go Tripp.
13) Mike mentioned that the club now has a FaceBook Page which can be accessed at ~ Henry County RC Club.
