Following a week of steady westerly cross winds, this morning dawned with a thick fog that surprised about everyone who had planned to visit the flying field. Vic mowed the runway and infield grass in IFR conditions but by the time Dave Sweet had the pancakes ready, a few hearty pilots had already tested the low overcast with their airplanes. By 10:30 the forecast of broken overcast had appeared and a light and variable breeze in the single digits allowed ideal flying conditions. Signing in at the Club Meeting were: Your officers: Vic Echevarria, Jim Murphy, Joe Ryan, and David Sweet (Andy Ripple was away taking Nolan to a leadership camp) along with members & guests: Lee Stimmel, David Sweet, Mark & Charles Trott, Mack Sanders, Wendell Shelnutt, Tim Bigley and Tripp Grissom. A good number of visitors came to watch and were added to attendees as the morning progressed.
MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS MEETING INCLUDE:
1) Vic voiced everyone’s thanks to David Sweet for all his efforts for making the day happen as well as providing a first class breakfast of hotcakes, bacon, sausage and eggs with trimmings.
2) Vic thanked Mike Lashley for providing the new American Flag. It looks good and pilots use it as the second wind sock throughout the flying day. It was mentioned that although the current wind sock is a bit weathered, we should be able to get another year of service from it.
3) Vic mentioned the serious storms that have brought death and destruction across the land and encouraged everyone to make sure they have a NOAA Weather Radio in their home.
4) Vic mentioned that the Henry County Parks and Recreation folks had checked on the flying field grass this week and had decided that it really did not need cutting. Of course that position did not take into consideration the needs of the various size aircraft using the field, so Vic decided to cut the runway grass this morning.
5) It was mentioned that this month’s RC Magazines did not mention the upcoming release of the FAA’s recommendation for the control of the national airspace as regards radio controlled airplanes. The report is expected late in June.
6) Vic encouraged everyone to keep up the good work in keeping the flying field clear of foreign objects, especially items like broken props and other smaller remains of airplanes that for one reason or the other have reverted to kit form. Larger pieces of aircraft that have experienced their final days of functioning should be placed in the dumpster located near the front of the soccer field area.
7) A special welcome was given to new member Wendell Shelnutt.
8) Mike Lashley reminded attendees that the AMA is currently offering a “Vanity” AMA identifier that can take the place of a member’s current AMA number. The fee is $50.00 and will stay with the member as long as membership is maintained.
9) Dave Sweet reminded attendees that the upcoming “Warbirds over Georgia” fun fly is scheduled for June 18 and everyone with a warbird is invited to bring it along to the day of Flying Fun. Activities are scheduled to be light with attendees getting a chance to get up close and personal with “war birds” from different eras.
10) A short workday is scheduled for Thursday, June 16 when the infield bare spots will be tilled, prepared and Bermuda grass sod placed in them. Mike said he would contact Chad to arrange delivery of the sod. It was mentioned that once installed, the sod needs to be watered every morning and the only sure way to do so is with a timer and splitter hoses.
11) Vic reminded attendees that they need to make sure that their name, AMA # and phone number is posted on their airplanes. (AMA regs requirement) Labels may be obtained without charge from the undersigned by request.
12) Dave Sweet said that the club sound system has a problem with one of the speakers and its harness. Anyone who can trouble shoot this problem is requested to contact Dave. (steews4@charter.net)
13) Joe Ryan gave the following financial information:
a. Checking account $3,038.00
b. Savings $3,082.00
c. PayPal 1 $2,168.00
d. PayPal 2 $1,599.00
e. Total $9,883.00
Respectfully submitted:
