The 3 P's
Procedures, Procedures, and Procedures
or
Pre flight inspections
prevent problems
As in all things in
life, if we all follow some simple rules and guidelines things usually go a bit
easier for us. Just ask any full scale pilot how he is able to to do what he
does, and he will most likely answer “check lists, and following procedures”.
I would once again like to remind everyone of a few
simple things that we should all be doing.
1.)
Signing in....We ask you to
sign in so we can inform Henry County how many folks are using the field.
2.)
Place your AMA card in a
frequency slot.
3.)
Take a frequency pin. (Even
if you forget your AMA card, please take a pin, to let everyone know what
frequencies are being used.)
4.)
Check to see that the
emergency box is open, and that the fire extinguisher is out.
These first
procedures should be done by everyone, no matter the time of day. If you are
the first one at the field, or if the field is crowded, it really doesn't
matter. You owe it to yourself and every other member of the club to follow
these procedures. In time it will become a habit.
Another very
important procedure we all need to be in the habit of is to inspect our
aircraft before each flight. Check motors and mounts for any thing that may be
loose. Check flight control hinges, that they are still good, by lightly
pulling on the control surface. Check landing gear. Make sure all receiver batteries are fully charged. It is never a
bad idea to double check your aircraft Center of Gravity. And finally, ( I'm guilty of this one), Did you
remember to refuel your airplane?
The December issue
of Model Aviation has another wonderful
article on this subject on page 103. I hope you all get the chance to read it.
With the beginning
of the Holiday season, and all of it's confusion, I would like to remind
everyone to be extra careful on the roads this month. Take an extra moment to
watch out for the “other guy”. There are many young drivers who talk on the
phone, or try to text while driving. I see it all the time. We know how dangerous this can be. Be safety aware while you are driving.
In closing, I would
like to wish all the members of HCRCC, and their families, a very Happy Holiday
Season.
