October meeting minutes

ON A PERFECT DAY FOR FLYING, THE OCTOBER 2014 HCRCC MEMBERSHIP MEETING WAS HELD ON OCTOBER 25 with the follow members attending:  President ~ Ron Hargrove, Vice-President ~ David Mitchell, Treasurer ~ Joe Ryan, Secretary ~ J.R. Murphy,  Safety Officer ~ Larry Przyborowski, Events Host ~ Julian Pugh,  Jim Brooks, Joe Brett, James Jones, E. McKnight, Ricky Hambrick, Phuc Ly, Ed Moore and guest Reese Beasley,
1)  Ron called the meeting to order and informed the attendees that the “mystery pilot” had been identified by two of the club members and that he had been informed of his proximity to our flying field.  He denied any knowledge of our existence and was surprised when informed that he had over-flown our runway on more than one occasion.  We found that he was not a real threat to the club as he was operating on 2.4GHz and invited him come fly with us and told him he was welcome to join the club.  He indicated that he intended to do that.  However, we have not seen him since that day.
2)  Ron informed attendees that a new club tee shirt and hat with embroidered logo was now being offered.  The price will be $20.00 for the shirt and $15.00 for the hat with the price for both being $30.00.  A variety of shirt colors are available with or without pocket and the member’s first name can be added to the pocket area within that price.  Order forms are available in the wall hanging box next to the pin box for those wanting to purchase any combination of shirt/shirts/hat.  Fill out the form and present the form with  payment to any officer to order your shirt/hat.
3)  Ron informed attendees that the club officer’s election is scheduled for November and any member can be nominated to serve as an officer for the 2015 calendar year.  Nominations are due in writing or via email to any 2014 club officer by  November 10 and the formal election will take place at the November business meeting scheduled for November 29.  The present officers have indicated their willingness to serve an additional year if this is the desire of the membership.  If no new nominations are received by November 10th the present slate of officers will be voted into office on November 29th.
4)   Safety officer Larry Przyborowski reviewed our operating guidelines/regulations and the fact that these “regs” are there for everyone’s safety during the club’s flight operations.  He reminded pilots that they are expected to fly from one of the six pilots stations when operating their craft within the normal flight pattern.  He also reminded us that the first pilot to take off takes off into the wind and thereby establishes the pattern direction.  It was pointed out that recently the light breeze has been changing directions so if more than one plane is operating in the pattern and a pilot about to land wants to change the direction of his landing, he needs to announce loudly that he wants to land and the direction he will be heading during that landing.  He also urged pilots to use the hard stands when fueling in an effort to keep from killing the grass with spilled fuel.  It has been noticed that some pilots have a “catch container” in which they catch over-flow fuel.  Good idea!
5)  It was pointed out that we continue to have new members join the club and although most of these have been excellent pilots, they do not know about such things as:  Signing in each visit to the field, picking up a frequency pin and displaying such on their person/Xmitter, making certain that a fire extinguisher/sand bottle is out and available  and  normal RC field courtesy.  Everyone should be alert to introduce themselves to new members and provide assistance.
6)  Ron reminded attendees of the upcoming Christmas party and that he will be releasing the applicable advertising piece  in the next few days giving the details.  This is always a very enjoyable experience with good food, good friends, lots of airplane “stuff” and RC prizes.  Plan to attend on Saturday evening, December, 6.
Ron adjourned the meeting and a good number of pilots took advantage of the wonderful flying day.   JRM
