Henry County RC Club Safety Letter August 2014

As we close the books on July, I am amazed that this year is half over. Looking back on the first six months of this year, the officers and I are very pleased with the progress that has happened here at Red Hawk Field. The field has been bush hogged again. The grass runway is looking better than ever. And new members continue to join our club.

Monthly, we fill out our safety report, which goes to the County, and we reported that there were 2 incidents so far this year. It would be wonderful, if there are no more injuries to reports for the next six months. If everyone continues to follow our simple guidelines, I feel that this is a real possibility.

Make sure you sign in every time you come to the field. If you are going to fly, make sure the fire extinguisher is out, and the safety cabinet is unlocked. Also important, is to make sure you put your AMA card in the frequency board, and take a pin.

Please do not Start, Test, or Run, any electric props/EDFs while under the covered pit areas. We are all guilty of this. It is a bad practice, and will lead to avoidable accidents.

After your flight, Taxiing of aircraft past the starting stands should be avoided. Should a radio loose signal, we could have a dangerous situation with an aircraft pointed right at the pit area. Why take that chance?

When hand starting a gas motor, please read all your safety info first. It is best to hand start an engine going across the top of the arc. Not down. If you feel that going down is the only way to start your engine, then chances are that your setup is incorrect. Feel free to discuss this with some of our more seasoned club members. They would be glad to help. We may even have some demo classes in the future.

Before I close, let me talk a bit about the baseball situation. We have been informed that once these championship games are completed, there should be a lull at the ball fields. Games most likely will start up again in September. The officers and I, would like to thank everyone for the great cooperation they showed while the baseball season was in full swing. Maintaining our southern border, and shifting our flights to the north has proven to be the key to maintaining peaceful relations with all concerned. Thanks again.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer
