Agenda items for this meeting included:
1) Ron called the meeting to order and pointed out that the AMA has granted a 60 day extension to the current membership comment time wherein members can respond to the most recent FAA Rules regarding their regulatory responsibilities for the National Air Space. While these latest FAA regulations do not appear to threaten the normal HCRCC operations at our flying field, it does not go unnoticed that the FAA is making a distinct change to a number of areas of RC flying that were not subject to these extra regulations in the past. The tool the FAA is using to make these changes is to state that the normal operations of the HCRCC (and clubs like this) fall under the clear identification of - Hobby and Recreational Use. However, a number of operations they plan to regulate do not. Such as First Person flight operations, Pilots participating in contests for financial prizes for winners, Pilots employed by business firms who manufacture, sell and service RC products and flying machines such as multi-rotor craft carrying cameras who take pictures and then profit from the sale of such photos.
2) Safety Officer Larry Przyborowski presented a few safety items designed to further hone our day-to-day operations at the field. He urged pilots to be careful to get their planes engines shut down while passing the start-up tables after landing and to not taxi past that point. He also urged pilots to refrain from starting/running electric motors while under the shelters pointing out that many of us show signs of a conflict with electric powered props. He then pointed out the outstanding efforts displayed this summer by pilots in observing the southern flying field boundary and thanked all concerned for this.
3) Ron reminded us that due to the significant rain fall on the last scheduled date, the Heli-Fun-Fly has been rescheduled for August 16. Since this will be a departure from the usual - Fixed wing Airplane - situation, Brian Hurley has been asked to perform the duties of “Contest Director” in an effort to make sure the program is pleasing to participating Heli-Pilots. Brian has graciously consented to serve in this capacity and will do his best to recruit some fellow Club Pilots to assist with this project.
4) Ron pointed out that someone is operating an RC plane from the area well north of the field and on this past Tuesday, flew this “40 size” trainer type plane far enough south of his location that he actually entered the club flight pattern and thereby threatened the safe operation of club pilots. We will attempt to identify the pilot involved and make every effort to cause this violation of club airspace to cease. It will also be reported to the Henry County Parks and Recreation leadership.
5) Murphy reminded attending members that the current financial reports are available to members at every monthly membership meeting and that these reports display the income and expenses for the year to date.
Ron dismissed the meeting and opened the field for flying as by this time a good number of additional pilots had arrived to fly.
