Safety Letter February 2014

Snow jam 2014. All I can say is WOW. I hope everyone came thru that terrible storm alright. I'm sure there are some amazing stories out there. We will be talking about that    storm for months to come. As Atlanta continues to grow, (the experts say that we are at 6 million now,) problems such as this will only get worse in the future.

One great suggestion I heard was that if the forecast in Atlanta calls for ice or snow, your number one duty is to Fill Up your gas tank. I'll second that remark.

After filling your tank, having a few emergency items with you, is always a good idea. Items you might carry are an extra bottle of water or two, a blanket, a flashlight, a small First Aid kit, and maybe even a small fire extinguisher. I'm sure other people could add to that list. It's up to you to know what you need.

Speaking of Fire Extinguishers.....

Our  fire extinguishers have had their annual inspection and servicing completed. HCRCC has two fire extinguishing bottles. Both are located in our safety cabinet. Please make sure that at least one bottle is out of the cabinet if anyone is flying.

Did you know that there are four (4) types of fire extinguishers.

Our units are rated A/B/C , dry powder  fire extinguishers. They are good for: A) - paper/wood, B) - oils/fuels, and C) - electrical fires. If there happens to be an electrical fire, it is important to shut off the power first. The circuit breaker panel is located on the outside wall of the main shelter, opposite of the soda machine.

Here is a small diagram of how to use the bottles.

And remember, have someone call #911, if the situation is serious. Even though the fire station is right around the corner, it will still take a good amount of time for them to respond. Don't hesitate to call them if you ever feel the need.

The same goes for Emergency Medical Treatment. Calling #911, is never a bad idea. Let the professionals determine the situation.

So here's hoping that spring will soon arrive, have fun, fly safe. See you at the field.
