HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB FEBRUARY, 2014 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES - Feb. 22, 2014

After a cool start, the following members attended the regularly scheduled February business meeting: President ~ Ron Hargrove , Vice-President ~ David Mitchell, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy,  Safety Officer ~ Larry Przyborowski,  WebMaster ~ Andy Ripple, Activities Host ~ Julian Pugh and members Ricky Hambrick, Mark Trott, Charles Trott, Marcus Lee and Brian Hurley.

This meeting was primarily devoted to the Club’s smooth interface with the Henry County Parksand Recreation Department’s Red Hawk Base Ball Program.  Although this was the second scheduled weekend with base ball activity scheduled, both weekend’s activities had been canceled.  We were able to determine the appropriate Henry County Officer in charge of this decision and have established contact with his office in an effort to coordinate our mutual activities.

1)  Ron called the meeting to order and noted that the recent adverse weather had resulted in damage to the flag pole and that Richard Rousseau had provided the needed materials and had made the needed repair and the flag was once again in its rightful place.
2)  Ron announced that the 2014 membership now stands at 79 members and this is considered to be a good level for the present time.
3)  Ron said that a question had been raised by a member regarding a table/tables at “Perry” for members use in offering some personal RC “stuff” for sale this coming weekend.  Glen had said that the Hobby Shop has rented three extra tables right next to their retail sales area and that these extra tables are available without charge for members to use.  Members leaving items on these extra tables must remember that it is the seller’s responsibility to watch after their own stuff.
4)  Ron encouraged every member with a camera or a phone/camera to get in the habit of bringing it to the field and taking pictures of club airplanes/activities for use on the website.  Andy mentioned that he can use pictures from about any media source and that facebook pictures are easily moved into the club’s media venues.  The club would encourage any member/friend of a member to volunteer as a “picture taking friend of the club” and work with the club leadership in this regard.  If interested, contact Ron or Andy.
5)  Ron pointed out that the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department had issued a Red Hawk Base Ball Game schedule for 2014 and that every weekend dating from Mid-February on has base ball game activities scheduled.  It therefore, makes it mandatory that the club pilots flying on weekends practice their pattern flying in an effort to keep their airplanes north of the access gate fence line.  Today, as a matter of pilot training, we stationed members at the gate with an air horn and sounded the horn whenever a pilot’s airplane crossed over the fence line. It was a valuable training tool as it is nearly impossible for pilots standing on one of the pilot’s positions to determine exactly where the airplanes are relating to the fence line.   Most pilots had no problem remaining north of the fence line today while the faster ducted fan fighter type airplanes found it easy to slip over the line.
6)  Murphy explained the current budget control software programs and year-to-date income/expense items and said that the club’s financial reports would be available at each business meeting for interested members to observe.
7)  Ron mentioned that the current AMA magazine - Model Aviation for March, 2014 has an article of importance for the membership regarding the AMA’s posture with the FAA spelled out in the recent Memorandum of Understanding signed by each.  In this article (Page 14/15) Rich Hanson writes “The signing of this landmark agreement is a momentous step forward to safeguard model aviation.”  And, although the FAA has not nearly completed its work in airspace control, model aviation as we know it is not presently at risk.
8)  Safety Officer Larry Przyborowski pointed out that the fire bottles have once again been inspected, serviced and certified for use for the upcoming flying year.  He also pointed out the proper method of using the fire bottles.
   Happy Landings......   JRM, Club Secretary
