Henry County RC Club Safety Letter November 2013

The change of season is definitely upon us. We have had our first frost, the winds and rains have returned, and the falling leaves have begun to amass in the back yard. Yet sometimes the best flying weather is in November and December. It's cooler, and airplanes preform much better. I hope you can find the time in your busy schedules to come on out to the field and enjoy a day of flying.

The October edition of Model Aviation magazine has an excellent article on page 105. It is titled  “Building for Electric Safety.  I hope you all take the time to read this and become familiar with the idea of an arming switch. This switch or plug, would be between the battery and the ESC. An external plug is best.

Another idea, that is briefly talked about in the article is that of using your radio as a failsafe. Many radios that have a programmable Throttle Cut switch can be programmed so that your motor will not operate unless the throttle cut switch is in the correct position. Sometimes this can also be done in a mixing program. Unfortunately the Spectrum Dx6i, and the Dx7, have a dedicated switch and this function cannot be used. If someone has figured out a mix for this please let me know about it.

As a small side note, I'd like to remind all members, to follow these easy to remember guidelines.
1.                  Each time you come to the field, please sign in. If you have visitors with you, please ask them to sign in also. We turn these figures in to the county each month, and it lets them know how much interest there is our field.
2.                  While you are signing in, please, place your AMA card on the frequency board and take an appropriate tag, for your radio.
3.                  Remember that during times when the Baseball fields are being used,  The main entrance gate becomes our southern border. Please do your best to not fly past the marked fence line.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun November, and have a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.
