On a beautiful Saturday morning in late April featuring some scattered high clouds and a breeze of 14 MPH from the ESE, as we drove onto the flying field we were greeted with freshly mowed grounds as the Henry County grounds crew had done a great job of mowing the grounds on Friday. The following members attended the regularly scheduled business meeting: President ~ Vic Echevarria, Vice-President ~ David Mitchell, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Safety Officer - Larry Pryzborowski, Events Coordinator - Ron Hargrove, Events Host - Julian Pugh, Tim Bigley, Richard Rousseau, Charles Trott, Dave Sweet, Dishun McCord, Jim Brooks, Keith Shaw, Brian Hurley and guest Joe Johnson.1) Vic called the meeting to order and briefed attendees of the change in the club’s slate of officers. Larry Przyborowski will be serving as Safety Officer, Ron Hargrove will be serving as Events Coordinator, Julian Pugh will serve as Events Host and during the remainder of the 2013 calendar year Andy Ripple will serve as Treasurer while he automates the financial accounts and the reporting format. Regarding the financial reporting format, the club manages three accounts, a PayPal Account, a Savings Account and a Regular Business Bank Account and maintains account balances throughout the year of from $6,000 to $10,000. The new system will provide the club with total visibility of the three accounts and their balances.2) Vic reviewed Ron Hargrove’s comments during the March business meeting regarding the state of dis-repair of the paved runway and the need for the club to try to make something good happen soon on the runway or it may become a total loss to the membership. The club’s efforts this month resulted in a visit to the field by the Parks and Recreation Director, Mr. Jim Joyce. He was briefed on the problem and walked the runway and saw firsthand the problem facing the club. Mr. Joyce was instrumental in contacting applicable Henry County leaders and they in turn visited the field and have now initiated action that will result in cost analysis of more than one repair option. We were certainly encouraged with this action and will contact Mr. Joyce as to the progress on this action. The Henry County personnel who are working on the runway repair project are: Michael Toney at 770-288-7625 and Tony O’Neal (The paving guy) at 770-288-76233) Vic said that he is working with the grass cutting crew and trying to get a reliable schedule from them as to when they will be cutting the grass.4) Vic said the County responded favorably to our request for bush-hogging the outlying areas of the flying field and said that we are on the current list of areas to be cut.5) Safety Officer Larry commented regarding his focus on Safety matters and encouraged everyone to give attention to each Safety Item presented to the membership. He pointed out the current address of the field in case of the need to make a 911 call for an injury.6) It was mentioned from the floor that some minor preventative maintenance was needed on the electric system at the field and we agreed to let Vic contact Henry County personnel and seek their guidance on these repairs.7) Vic pointed out that the Pattern Competition, although somewhat smaller than expected, was a success and was carried out with success. Though an exact figure was not available, it appeared that the club will net approximately $300.00 from the activity.8) Interest was mentioned from the floor regarding another Tee-shirt project. Charles Trott said that Mark was busy but would be available for such a project. Charles also mentioned that he did not have the services of a home computer and would appreciate some method of staying in better touch with club activities. Rousseau mentioned that until the recent passing of our club member Sherman Cohen, that he had been the communications link with Sherman who also did not have a home computer. Perhaps the club can develop a “one guy to one guy” system for members without computers.Until next time,............. See you at the field. JRM, Club Secretary
