HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB JUNE-2012 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES – for the Meeting held on Saturday morning ~ June 30, 2012.
The following members attended the June 30 business meeting: President ~ Vic Echevarria, VP ~ Jim Brooks, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Treasurer E.J. Marshall, Richard Rousseau, Edward Moore, Dave Mitchell, Tripp Grissom, Curtis Miller, Joe Brett, David Neal, Ricky Hambrick, John George, Brian Hurley, and Brett Browning.
Vic called the meeting to order with the following items brought to the floor:
1) Vic thanked everyone who helped out with the “WarBirds over Henry County” event and voiced his feeling that it went over well and resulted in an addition of approximately $300.00 to the club bank account.
2) Vic called attention to the AMA News release stating that the FAA is obviously not currently interpreting the law recently signed by President Obama the same way that AMA has. It was our position that the law stated that the AMA club operations will be exempt from further regulations; however, the FAA still intends to infringe on our current operating provisions. We need to watch for the release of the FAA regulations policy statements and respond correctly.
3) Vic mentioned that the recent “WarBird Event” gave us a chance to check out our field safety operations and the officers felt that we need to improve our performance, especially in the area of spectator control. The officers will get together and refine some of the areas in which we felt that we were less than professional in AMA rule observation and get back to the membership with their recommendations at the July business meeting.
4) Vic thanked Ricky Hambrick for pointing out that the current first aid kit is designed to handle only very minor injuries and not at all suitable for a serious injury currently possible with some of the giant scale models being flown by the membership. Vic said that he is commissioning some EMT personnel to provide a list of the equipment necessary to provide proper first aid care for more serious injuries. When this equipment is assembled we will consider the best way to make it quickly available for anyone needing it.
5) Vic reviewed the recent NOTAM issued by the FAA preventing flying this past Thursday from 10:45 a.m. He said that it might be necessary to put a different lock on the gate when NOTAM action would prevent flying from our field.
6) Vic thanked Richard Rousseau and wife Sylvia for their work in freeing up the runway watering system recently. This system appears to be working well now.
7) Vic pointed out we are currently exercising possible rework for the paved runway. He said he had invited Jim Joyce from the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department to attend the meeting, but it appeared that Jim was not able to attend. David Neal had invited a paving contractor friend of his to come out and look at our problem and make suggestions. The contractor gave us some suggestions on how to level out the low spot and will provide cost estimates for the repair job.
8) It was suggested by Mr. Rousseau that during special field operations such as the WarBird event that club officers wear special shirts & hats identifying them as officers of the club in an effort to assist with field safety.
Respectfully submitted - James R. Murphy, Club Secretary
