HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB JANUARY-2012 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES – for the Meeting held on January 21, 2012
The following brave members attended the special January business meeting held on January 21, just prior to the Chili Cook-off, Fun Fly and Swap Meet:  In attendance were President ~ Vic Echevarria, Vice President ~ Jim Brooks, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Treasurer ~ E. J. Marshal, Safety Officer ~ Julian Pugh, Curtis Miller, Lee Stimmel, Tom Breedlove, Dave Mitchell, Mark Trott, Charles Trott, Chad Sheppard, Dave Skrine, Tim Bigley, Jake Bigley, Joe Ryan, Errol McKnight and Dave Sweet.   Following a night of scattered rain showers and a threatening sky and forecast, a 15 MPH breeze from the S/SW further limited the “fun fly” part of the day. However, a few members were not to be denied and proved their skill with some successful flights. Though not all we had hoped for, some Swap Meet activities also took place.
Vic called the meeting to order with the following items brought to the floor:
1)     Vic brought attendees up to date with the latest information regarding the FAA’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) and the fact that the February’s Model Aviation (page 12) contains significant information on what members can expect when the NPRM is released. This article contains verbiage such as “the modeling community is not going to like the proposed rule.”    However, this same article explains that “in the NPRM, there is a provision for community-based organizations such as the AMA to develop and submit their own set of model aircraft standards that, if adopted, can be used as an alternative means of complying with the sUAS regulation.”   This certainly seems like a viable option for us.  Vic urged the attendees to stay alert for the release of the NPRM.
2)     Vic explained that Henry County has given the club permission to develop an East/West runway.  A number of regular flyers have long desired such a runway that would offer a prepared surface for those days when either wind conditions not conducive to use of the North/South runway and/or loss of power would prove the new runway of significant value.  The club officers have mowed an area they feel is consistent with safe operations and will be generating a plan for eventual use.
Club officers/members will be developing this runway in the months to come for use and after a careful effort for developing how to safely use the runway, we will have a formal “ribbon cutting ceremony” and officially open the runway.  Until such time, it will be considered the same as the rest of the property and available only for emergency use at the pilot’s discretion.
3)     Jim Brooks and Julian Pugh are working on a 2012 calendar of events and listed the following items for our consideration:
a.      Perry Georgia’s annual Model Show & Swap Meet (Details in the February Model Aviation – Page 131)
b.      Victor Diaz will serve as Contest Director for an AMA 401, 404 and 406 electric fly meet to be held on Saturday March 31 and Sunday, April 1.  During the practice sessions on Friday, club members may fly if they do not interfere with contestants; however, Saturday and Sunday flights will be limited to AMA registered contestants.  (Members will have the opportunity to both compete as well as see some of the “Big Boys” perform on Sat & Sun)
c.      September 28 & 29 will be a Warbirds over Henry County” event.
d.      Julian said that he is working on a Pancake Breakfast Fun Fly for February.  Watch the Website for details.
e.      Jim Brooks will once again head up the Henry County Library Day” and “Summer Camp” open house activities at the flying field. Always well attended these dates are TBA.
f.       Julian said that another “Night Flight” is in the mill for this summer.
4)     Chile making champions for this year were:
a.      Third Place – Julian Pugh
b.      Second Place – Jim Brooks
c.      First place and 2012 Chili Champion – Charles Trott
Final summary for the day:  (Scale of 1 to 10)
1)     Weather conditions                         “2”
2)     Fun Fly                                               “1”
3)     Swap Meet                                         “3”
4)     Chili Eating                                       “10”
Respectfully submitted:
