HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB JULY, 2011 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES - July 30, 2011

The following members attended the regularly scheduled July business meeting: President ~ Mike
Lashley, Vice-President ~ Vic Echevarria, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Treasurer ~ Joe Ryan, Safety Officer ~
Dave Sweet, WebMaster Andy Ripple, Julian Pugh, Mark Trott, Charlie Trott, Charles Colbert, Curtis
Miller, Joe Brett, Jim Brooks, Dave Skrine, Richard Rousseau, Larry Przyborowski, Errol, McKnight,
Jon Terrell, guests Kristen Terrell and Jesse Phillips . Once again, bright blue skies and excellent field
conditions allowed a good number of attendees to take advantage of the good flying weather following
the meeting.
1) Vic called the meeting to order promptly at 10:00 and pointed out that the field conditions have not been
this good in recent memory and that funds and energies expended in the last 18 months have proved prudent
in developing a good strong stand of grass. We still have some trouble with some broad-leafed grass on the
north end of the grass runway which we will have to attend to. Presently Vic and Murphy are mowing the
grass but not the entire field areas. Some ideas were expressed regarding the long term management of the
grass cutting and it was suggested that we get a cost-to-mow quote from some lawn services. We plan to do
so. Some of the other attendees also volunteered to help cut the grass.
2) Item 1) is the good news, the bad news is that Henry County Parks and Recreation folks are now feeling
the budgetary pinch and the four mowing teams have been cut to just one team and they have informed us that we cannot depend on them for keeping the field mowed. We will keep the lines of communication open
with the County and see how this situation works itself out during the remainder of the summer months.
3) It was pointed out that there are some fire ant hills beginning to show up and some treatment will be made
on these areas. This brought up the subject that President Mike Lashley will undergo back surgery in the
next week or so and will be out of commission from four to six weeks. Vic suggested that he be given a club
credit card to be able to keep the field conditions in proper shape.
4) Vic mentioned that he had spoken to the “Potty” servicing firm and they appear to be doing a better job in
keeping the facility clean.
5) Vic pointed out that the recent pressure on Washington D.C. and the shutdown of the extra activities of
the FAA has greatly diminished the pressure on regulation of all the airspace and so there has been no new
word from the regulators regarding these plans.
6) Vic again pointed out that the starting tables are showing their age and Andy Ripple explained that Nolan
has one more year to accomplish his Eagle Scout rating and he volunteered to get Nolan to organize a table
building project using Boy Scouts from his troop. The attendees voted to move forward with this project
and agreed to contact Henry County Parks and Recreation folks to see what support they could provide.
Andy agreed to get the project moving and a date for building the tables was set for mid-October of this year.
7) Vic announced that Glen had once again invited the club to hold their Christmas party in his hangar so a
date of December 3 was set for the party and this will now be coordinated with Glen for final approval.
8) Vic make a strong pitch for making sure that all members were aware of the need to begin to think of this
year’s election of officers and encourage all the membership to participate in selection of the officers who
will serve for the 2012 calendar year. Andy will continue to keep the web-site working on this situation.
9) Dave Sweet reminded attendees that a pancake breakfast will be included in the mid-October starting
table assembling day activities and that another night-fly was in the planning stages.
10) Vic mentioned that an autumn work day would probably be held and asked for ideas from attendees on
any additional projects that were needed. One member asked if it would be possible for the County to
provide a dumpster closer to our flying field. Vic said that although it is doubtful, he would ask the question.
Happy Landings...... JRM, Club Secretary
