HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB APRIL, 2011 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES - April 30, 2011
A most beautiful late April day in Georgia brought a good turnout to the regularly scheduled April
business meeting: In attendance were President ~ Mike Lashley, Vice-President ~ Vic Echevarria, Sec.
~ J.R. Murphy, Web-Master Andy Ripple, Julian Pugh, Ron Hargrove, David Skrine, Victor A. Diaz
Mike Sigler, Larry Przyborowski, Charles Trott, Richard Rousseau, Joe Brett, Kevin Moeggenberg,
Chad Sheppard, Kevin Walton, Charles Colbert, Jim Brooks and new member Macrio Jorge. A good
number of these fliers had airplanes in the air prior to the meeting and some did so following the meeting.
Vic called the meeting to order with a brief review of the bad weather experienced in Georgia and neighboring states and said that the President of the Griffin RC Club was a victim of the storm and lost a great amount of his dwelling and associated buildings. He then brought the following items to the attention of the attendees:
1) The temporary repair of the runway cracks was mentioned and that the County Engineering Office was to
take a look at it and give us their opinion on what we could do about it.
2) The County’s attention to the grass cutting and access road repair/maintenance was acknowledged and
accredited to the excellent relationship that exists between the Club and Mr. Jim Joyce at the Dept. of Parks
and Recreation.
3) Vic mentioned that the FAA notice is due to be released in the late June/July time frame and that the
recent response from AMA members was having the desired impact on law makers in Washington.
4) Vic reminded attendees that significant crash remains can be placed in the dumpster provided for the
Soccer fields rather than jam the field trash cans with it.
5) The leadership is working to try to provide a pancake breakfast for the May meeting. Watch the Web-Site for more information on this noteworthy occurrence.
6) Vic introduced new member smooth flying Marcio Jorge to the attendees and gave him a good welcome.
He and Victor Diaz had a portable sun shield that everyone loved and later the club voted to procure four of
the sun shields for club use at the field. Good move!
7) Mike Lashley informed attendees that AMA now has a vanity system for AMA numbers whereby members can for a fee select a permanent AMA number/name for themselves. Mike said he had selected
“RCAviator” as his new AMA number/name. Cool!
8) Attendees were reminded of the “Warbirds Over McDonough” club activity coming up in June. Information is on the Web-Site>
9) Vic and Chad presented a plan to purchase a pallet of Bermuda sod for use on the infield bare spots. The
cost will be around $125.00 for the pallet and a tentative date of the third week in May was agreed.
10) Jim Brooks said that his daughter had sown up some small sand bags for use by the members as wheel
chocks and other needs by members and said that he had a few of the left at $4.00 per.
11) Attendees were reminded that ID stickers are available for members free of charge and that these make
an easy way for members to stay in compliance with the AMA rule that requires every plane be identified with the Pilot’s name, AMA # and phone number.
Respectfully submitted ~ JRM, Club Secretary
