HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB MARCH, 2011 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

HENRY COUNTY RC CLUB MARCH, 2011 BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES - March 26, 2011
The threat of thunderstorms and approaching rain did not keep the following members from attending the regularly scheduled March business meeting: President ~ Mike Lashley, Vice-President ~ Vic Echevarria, Sec. ~ J.R. Murphy, Treasurer ~ Joe Ryan,  Safety Officer ~ Dave Sweet, Julian Pugh, Jay Andrews, Tim Bigley, Jake Bigley, Ron Hargrove, David Skrine, Lee Stimmel, Mike Sigler, Larry Przyborowski, Joe Brett, and Jim Brooks.  A good number of these fliers had airplanes in the air prior to the meeting and some did so following the meeting and runway repair activities.
Vic called the meeting to order and the following items were brought to the attention of the attendees:
1)  The problem with the paved runway was discussed and Vic said he had brought some repair materials with him this morning.  Following the meeting we surveyed the damage and made some repairs to the runway consisting of filling the cracks with blacktop type materials which is supposed to solidify when rain contacts the materials.  After these materials set for a few days, we will survey it and decide on the next step.
2)  Vic said that the County Recreation folks had called and notified him that they plan to cut the grass this year so they were given the new lock combination.
3)  Vic provided an overview of the FAA’s current efforts to provide regulation of the entire National Air Space.  Vic said there were indications that response by AMA members were having a good affect on the applicable folks in Washington, DC.  These announced changes are due this summer.
4)  Vic reminded us all that AMA regulations require that each RC airplane operated by AMA members is to have the owner’s information and AMA number on the airplane.  It was decided to procure some label materials and provide labels for each member for their use.  A small label is  now available for members with three lines of information.  Suggested use would be:  Owner’s name, AMA # and pilot’s phone number.  Email this information to the undersigned at jrm385char@aol.com with the quantity  you desire and they will be printed off and placed in the frequency pin box for your use.  There is no charge for this service and members will be expected to have this information on all the aircraft flown at the club flying field.  The labels are 2/3 X 1 3/4 inch so will not significantly diminish the A/C’s dignity.
5)  Attendees were reminded that last year’s professional grass treatment is now complete and the composition of the runway grass has been significantly improved.  We will try to maintain the quality of the grass with treatments as required during the upcoming months.
6)  Dave Sweet reminded attendees that “The Spring~Fling” is scheduled for Sunday, April 10 beginning at 11:00 that morning.  This activity will offer nice prizes and good food. A  landing fee of $5.00 will be in place and meatball subs and soft drinks will be available for $6.00.  Dave gave a brief explanation of one of the activities described as a “musical chairs” type contest whereby participating pilots will occupy a position in the pattern and upon a signal, the idea is to get on the ground safely in as short a time as possible.
7)  Members were encouraged to help keep the grounds neat and clean by disposing properly of any foreign objects observed on the flying field.  It was again mentioned that remains from ‘CRASHED’ aircraft are not to be placed in the flying field trash cans but can be disposed of in the dumpster located in the soccer field area.
8)   A question was raised from the floor about future use of the soccer fields since this part of the Henry County Recreation program has been transferred to another property.  It was confirmed that these fields are to be converted to softball/baseball fields.
9)  Joe Ryan gave the following financial report:    Pay Pal 1  $1,836.08
                                                                        Pay Pal 2  $1,599.32
                                                                        Checking  $2,524.28
                                                                        Savings  $3,022.40
                                                                        Total   $8,982.08
10)  New fliers continue to join the club with present membership at 83 applications processed with a few new applicants pending.
11)  Julian Pugh donated a book to the RC Club entitled:  “Classic Military Aircraft”.  This book will serve as a great source of information for members seeking guidance on official markings on these aircraft.  The book will come under the supervision of our Vice President and may be checked out by contacting Vic.

Respectfully submitted ~ JRM, Club Secretary
