HCRCC JANUARY CLUB MEETING AND CHILI FUN FLY – HELD ON 15 JANUARY, 2011
Following a week of nasty cold weather with lots of ice and snow, the day of our 2011 Chili Fun Fly dawned clear, with just a light 5 MPH breeze and bright sunshine that quickly drove away the morning chill and provided a delightful day of flying and prize winning chili to warm both the body and spirit. The turnout was excellent and at 1:00 p.m. there 39 vehicles in the parking lot and too many airplanes to even try to count. Signing in at the Club Meeting were: Your officers: Vic Echevarria, Jim Murphy, Joe Ryan, Andy Ripple & David Sweet along with members & guests: Randy Ficklen, Norman Zimmer, Lee Stimmel, Tom Breedlove, Alex Sweet, David Sweet, Sam Latif, Jim Brooks, Richard Rousseau, John Mills, Mark Trott, Tony Hargrove, Jonah Hargrove, L Fuller and Mark Murdock. Other members and a number of guests (including ten members of the fairer sex) were added to attendees as the day progressed.
MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS MEETING INCLUDE:
1) Vic thanked the attendees for their attendance and David Sweet for all his efforts for making the day happen.
2) It was announced that members could have their AMA card with 2011 club sticker laminated during the day.
3) It was announced that the gate and pin box combination would be changed effective immediately and Vic gave the new number to attendees and encouraged everyone to protect the combination as we try to protect the facilities and club liability.
4) Vic challenged us to encourage former members to get their 2011 membership dues submitted ASAP.
5) Vic informed the membership that the officers had met in executive session last Saturday, working on the 2011 plans and goals for the club.
6) The 2011 club sponsor program was reviewed with a reminder that anyone can support the club by making a donation (over and above applicable club dues) with the following levels: Gold Level ~ $100.00 and above, Silver Level $75.00 to $99.99 and Bronze Level any amount from $50.00 to $74.99. Donations of any materials needed in the club’s normal operations may also be made in the sponsor program as long as the Officers approve of the materials and a receipt is given by the donor.
7) We discussed the paved runway problem with continued sinking of one specific area and it was agreed that the officers will contact the County Engineer and seek his advice on what can be done to remedy the problem.
8) A financial report was reviewed and Vic expressed the club’s need to strengthen our fiscal position with increased enrollment for the new year.
9) Attendees were reminded that this meeting would be the January meeting and that no further meetings are scheduled for this month.
10) The Club has requested that Jim Brooks be the official club representative to interface with Henry County leaders to facilitate the club’s hosting activities like “Library Day” “The Summer Camp Programs” and any other Henry County activities. Jim Agreed to serve in this capacity.
11) It was announced that the Club would set up a $200.00 petty cash account to be maintained by Vic in his capacity as “Field Chairman”. These funds would be available for items like Ant Killer, Weed Killer, Runway Crack Repairs and such.
12) Vic announced that Henry County would not be using the soccer fields adjacent to the flying field this year and that these activities have been moved to new facilities.
13) Vic made some very favorable comments about the Christmas Party and encouraged members to thank Glen for his hosting the event. Attendees indicated their desire to do the same thing this year and hope for better weather.
14) David Sweet (Events Coordinator for the club) said he would be putting together a formal program for the 2011 events and hoped to include: A War Birds Fly-In, A Spring-Fling in April and mentioned that Glen (Hobby Shop) would like to organize a Sunday Fun Fly which could include all the guys who work on Saturdays and especially the great guys that work with him.
15) Jim Brooks asked about the Club’s official instructors and if the club had listed these members with the AMA for 2011. It was agreed that the Officers need to formalize the list of Instructors who are presently approved by the club to give flight instruction to new members and that when a new member is approved for solo flight, how to inform other members/officers that this has happened. The officers agreed to take this situation under study and work out a plan for implementation.
16) Field maintenance was discussed with items like grass cutting and access road maintenance being at the top of the list. Vic cautioned us that with the budget restraints being enforced within Henry County, we would probably experience more rather than less pressure on resolving these problems. The officers agreed to pay a visit to the County managers involved to see what we could do to gain support in this area.
17) It was announced that the club has purchased a new roller for use in trying to smooth out irregularities in the grass runway and that it will now be a part of the regular runway maintenance program. With the fragrance of hot chili wafting among the shelters, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted:
Jim Murphy
